Description

Half-Elf (Friggian/Polaran) female Lvl 4 Druid-Elemental Master

In the ancient days of the northlands, the only elves that were known to the human barbarians were the “fair-folk”, or “Fey-folk”, as they were known.  In truth, they were some of the first Sylvisan Elves, and they settled in the valley between the northern stretches of the Equideyean mountain  range and the Q’llun Mountains to the west.  But they didn’t stay there, not all of them anyway.  The wanderlust of that led the elven races to spread across the globe and evolve into numerous new sub-species was still very much in effect.  Another band of explorers traveled across the frozen seas to the land of Friggia, a huge island off the east coast of Callona.  There they settled and eventually adapted to their new home.  Were that all, they would have remained basically Sylvisan.  They did not.

There was an ancient power living beneath the ice in the north, a power that combined aspects of ice, fire and the radiant energies of the northern lights.  And there were primitive humans, even then, that worshipped this power.  Initially, they were weak, barely able to conjure a snowball.  But a winter came like none other.  The freezing temperatures burned the flesh black.  The elves began to die by the hundreds.  So, their Queen made a deal with the devil, or in this case, with the Eidelon.  The winter ended, but the Rimefire Witches were born.  They slumbered, buried deep beneath the ice in Polaris, across the northern sea.  They would remain so until the Queen reign was over.  When she died, hundreds of years later, the ice came again.  The Rimefire Witches had emerged.  And with them came the Frost Giants, the White and Violet Dragons, and the beasts of the north.

The elves, once masters of the land, were now slaves trapped on Friggia.  And so they stayed until the great Violet Dragon King was slain and the Rimefire Witches were defeated.  But during their centuries of slavery, they adapted to their new reality.  They grew immune to the cold.  More than immune, they became dependent upon it.  Their body temperatures dropped to just above freezing, and they developed magical protections that made them immune to cold that might liquefy air.  Some broke free of their chains and began a resistance.  They had a prophecy of a warmlander that would come and free them from slavery.  And so it was when members of the SGL were accidentally dropped into Friggia by a Worldgate malfunction.  The Dragon King was slain, the Eidelon was banished, and the Rimefirre Witches lost their power,… for a time.

During the days before the Friggian revolution, the Rimefire Witches, human women of predominantly Polaran blood, kept Friggian Elves as servants, slaves, and toys.  It didn’t happen often, but there were a few cases of intentional crossbreeding to develop a Half-Elf of Friggian blood that would make the sisterhood more resistant to the cold.  There were as many reasons for such a breeding as there were Witches that attempted it.  Some came out bad.  Some, not so much.  Most were pushed by their mothers to become Witches themselves.  Others were simply used as cannon fodder in the wars to come, spies on the Friggian resistance or soldiers that would command Thanoi and White Spawn armies.  Few that tried to break away from their mothers succeeded,… until the revolution did.

Deidre Halgren was one of those half-breeds.  She never knew who her father was, but clearly, he was Friggian.  Her mother was one of the Polarans, a Rimefire Witch.  Born with natural talents and some manner of the resistances and powers the Witches had been trying to breed, Deidre was destined to become one of their sisterhood, a wielder of the deadly Rimefire, sister to the dragons of Friggia, mistress of the Jouten.  But something inside her turned from that path early.  As a Half-Elf, however, she would easily outlive her mother, if no other power interfered.  She hunkered down, took her abuse, and pretended to be a good little Witch for as long as she could.  Her mother, finally, died of old age.  That’s when Deidre made good her escape into the wilds.

However, it would be another thirty years before the prophecy of the return of the Ice Queen came to pass and the rule of the Violet Dragon King was ended.  The last of the Rimefire Witches, another half breed like herself was part of the final solution that used the power of the Eidelon to return Friggia to its original state.  But Deidre was on the other side of the island when all that happened, holed up with her Ice Bear, hiding from Frost Giant patrols.  That’s when the weather changed, the glacier that covered the vast central plains melted away, and Friggia started to green once again.  Only then did Deidre come out and join the rebuilding and the replanting.

Ten years after the revolution, Deidre has seen enough of the land where she was born, has seen it change from a frozen and blasted no-man’s land to a thriving forest in summer and winter.  But another horrid winter has come again and there are rumblings and rumors that the Rimefire Witches have returned.  Determined to get involved this time rather than hide in a cave, Deidre has boarded a ship for Equideyea, Paleurevalla and Hergovine, from whence this new fimbulwinter has emerged.

Possessed of immunity to even magical cold, Deidre has also been burned by the Rimefire and grown somewhat resistant to its energies.  She fights as she was taught by her mother, in the draconian style taught to servants of the great wyrms.  She’ll most commonly be found fighting with a two-handed scimitar she took from a Polaran raider.  Though she initially trained in Black Witchcraft, she quickly changed to druidic magic when she got out on her own, though she retained her specialty in using Rimefire as an Elemental master would.  Her innate resistances, energy defense, and damage reduction mean she never wears armor, and rarely wears much else.  Her innate health allows her to heal quickly, leaving no scars on her perfect skin.  Unlike so many raised in an environment surrounded by evil, corrupt women, she did not develop any conversion reactions to some of their more wanton behaviors.  Rather, she’s as much a nymphomaniac as many Black Witches and Erotics.
