Chantress Abyrral - Drow female Lvl 3 Mystic of Hanali

In the last days of the Splinter Kingdom, the last days of the worship of Lolth, the most powerful priestesses came together to plot their final assault on their many enemies.  With the Mindspider returning to Arrallonian space, it was only a matter of time before Arrallon itself was destroyed.  They, the true followers, the faithful and devout, would be taken away into the blackness of the stars with their living Goddess.  Well, we all know how that turned out.

In one of those temples in one of those distant Drow towns in the Western UnderDark, a High Priestess, Elvedra Rynduris Abyrral, her younger sister, Chalithra, and her niece, Chantress, were preparing to be taken bodily into the heavens and live there in the dark of space with their Goddess.  But rather than a Yochlol to take them hence, they were invaded by Revenancers, the vile worshippers of the White Banshee, Kiriansalee.  As part of the final solution, Kiriansalee had held her forces back until the tide was ready to turn.  She knew that Lolth’s Dreadnaught would soon be blasted out of the stars, that Her chief rival for dominion over the UnderDark would be wiped from existence once and for all time.  The assault included numerous undead Revenants, previous victims of Elvedra herself.  The Revenancers also brought along two Abyssal Ghouls, hideous demonic undead with the power to drain the very faith of their victims.  By the time the battle was done, Chalithra was not just dead, but destroyed, and Chantress, a young acolyte, was knocked unconscious and taken as a prisoner.  She never knew what befell her aunt.

Chantress awoke some time later.  She didn’t know how long she’d been out, nor what had happened to her during her missing time.  She found herself in the presence of strangers, uplanders who were heading east, out of the UnderDark.  They told her of a battle against a band of Goblin slave traders who had apparently decided to keep her as a sex slave given her curves and youthful beauty.  The uplanders had magically inspected her and found her impious, any faith she may once have had completely drained away.  Chantress had always been one to doubt the teachings of her aunt, knowing the self-serving nature and cruelty of the High Priestesses of Lolth, so giving up the worship of Lolth was easier than it might have been for someone more indoctrinated in the church.  She accepted the escort of the uplanders, knowing that she had little chance to break free or to survive on her own if she did.

Some weeks later she was in a camp in the woods.  Still young and inexperienced, she adapted quicker than other Drow might to living in the uplands.  She was left with a village of wood elves, sneered at and insulted at every turn.  One day a human Erotic entered the village and found the Drow teenager.  It took no time at all for the Erotic to realize just how special Chantress really was.  She arranged for a meeting with the village elders and Chantress’ fate was determined.  She was turned over to a Zeigus Elven priestess of Hanali in a nearby human city and educated in the ways of the Goddess of Beauty and Love.  Years later, she had emerged from her training and returned to Shallymyra, a newly minted Mystic of Hanali Cellanil.

Time passed as she became fully skilled in her new role and station, serving not only the Sylvisan peoples of Shallmyra, but the emotions of her mercurial Goddess.  Being somewhat more focused and subdued than the Sisters of the Pearl, her position was one of matchmaker, midwife, romance counselor, and occasional fluffer.  When word reached the west that the Golden Heart had been seen in the east, Chantress set out on a pilgrimage to find Her.  Months and numerous adventures later, she entered Xanthius, only to find that the rumors of the Golden Heart were merely stories of another Mystic of Hanali like herself.  But rather than waste the trip, she set out to find her own place in this wild land of Equideyea, a place so lacking in love.

Chantress fights when she must, but avoids violence when she can.  She uses her charms, her guile, and her magic to neutralize threats.  But if she has to, a Magic Missile or a Burning Hands isn't beyond her talents, especially if they're cast with Holy, Purified or Consecrated magic.  She's open to any liaison, though she has an almost racial preference for female lovers.  Then again, she'd never turn down a well stacked True Hermaphrodite, were she to meet one.  She still has nightmares of her ordeal at the hands of the Abyssal Ghouls and the Mord Elven worshippers of Kiriansalee, though she indirectly has them to thank for her fall from Lolth's grace and conversion to a more enlightened path.
